The Center for Public Policy Transformation (Transformation), held a gathering with its Patrons, Friday, (15/2), at its office in Cipaku, Blok M. In this friendly and warm event, one of the Patron, H. Muhammad Basyir Ahmad Syawie, had a chat with the Executive Director of Transformasi, Nazla Mariza.
Basyir Ahmad, who was also the Mayor of Pekalongan from 2005 – 2015, shared an innovation in health that was undertaken by Pekalongan City during his leadership. In 2013, Pekalongan City grouped 14 Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) into one under the Local Public Service Agency (BLUD). As a result, these 14 puskesmas no longer had their own head and staff, instead they only had one head and used staff from BLUD.
“Under 1 BLUD, the management of these Puskesmas became more efficient. Services were better. Ultimately, the satisfaction of the public who used health services significantly improved. This was our reasoning to do this breakthrough, so that the people received good quality health services,” said Basyir enthusiastically.
Transformasi’s Role in Spreading Innovations to the Public
During the discussion, Basyir also conveyed his appreciation to Transformasi for disseminating this Pekalongan City innovation to the public, by writing a book entitled “Case Study of Pekalongan City Puskesmas: Reforming Primary Healthcare Management”. Because of this book, a number of governments from other cities had visited Pekalongan to learn and replicate its success in their respective region.
“Thank you to Transformasi. This role to spread best practices from one region to another as well as the public is indeed important so we can improve public service,” revealed Basyir while he brandished the Case Study book.
