Dr. Wicaksono Sarosa (commonly called as Wicak) likes to see himself as a knowledge worker (facilitating processes of knowledge transfer) in the promotion of sustainable development, good governance (including the role of civil society), urban and community development.
Wicak just recently concluded his five-year term (2009 – 2014) as the Executive Director of the Partnership for Governance Reform (or Kemitraan) a multi-stakeholder grant-making organization that promotes good governance in the areas of democratization, decentralization, bureaucratic reform and public service, civil society empowerment, anti-corruption, human right and justice, environmental sustainability and poverty alleviation.
In the period of 2007 – 2009, Wicak worked as a team leader in a number of endeavors, particularly the National Urban Policy and Strategy formulation, commissioned by the Indonesian National Planning Agency, the Ministry of Public Works and the World Bank as well as in an analytical study of district planning and budgeting, commissioned by the Decentralization Support Facility. He was also either the team leader or a member of independent evaluation teams of various donor-supported projects. He has also been a training instructor in a number of projects in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bhutan, Thailand as well as Australia.
From 2001 through 2006, Wicak was the executive director of the Urban and Regional Development Institute (Urdi), where he until now still sits as a member of the Foundation’s Board. Concurrently from 1997 through 2009, he taught various classes (urban ecology, urban management and planning methods/processes) at the Trisakti University. In addition, Wicak has written or co-written quite a number of articles, chapters of books, books, working papers in the aforementioned areas of interest.
Wicak earned his masters’ and doctorate degrees in city and regional planning from the University of California at Berkeley in 1993 and 2001 respectively. He was a Fulbright scholarship recipient from 1990 - 1992. His bachelor degree in architecture from the Bandung Institute of Technology was earned in 1984.
